Brass Bathroom Ideas

Brass is one of the biggest bathroom trends to emerge in the last few years, and it is a trend that continues to grow. So why is brass playing a large part in our new bathroom makeovers? It’s easy to see why, brass adds instant warmth to a black or white bathroom, it gives a classical, elegant touch to a marble tiled bathroom and brass offers a perfect contrast to a green bathroom scheme, in fact brass works in almost any colour scheme.

Amara Bathrooms

There are several things to bear in mind when designing your new brass bathroom whether in a trendy city apartment or a busy family home. Keep it simple, don’t over complicate your design and plan the layout carefully, add your brass touch by incorporating brass into your taps, handles and wall lights, add in accessories including a brass mirror.

If you are planning a new luxury bathroom then the warm accents of brass are a super way to ensure the space you create is beautiful and relaxing. Let’s have a look at how this lovely, warm metallic can work in your bathroom.

What is brass?

Brass is a metallic alloy made up of zinc and copper. The brass look that is on-trend is a pale, muted gold that looks classy and luxurious, but there are a lot of different hues available and this all depends on the specific mix of the manufacturer.

Bathroom brassware

For many years chrome has topped the charts for taps and shower finishes in the bathroom, but this is changing. As the name suggests, 'brassware' has the metal 'brass' at its core and why not – it is a material that is durable and long lasting. Usually, the brass is finished with chrome or nickel to produce the shiny silver look we’ve used for many years. As warmer metallic tones have appeared in other areas of our homes, we’ve seen brass and copper appear on taps and other metal finishes in the bathroom.

Lacquered brass or unlacquered brass?

Unlacquered brass is not necessarily the lesser option. Many people love the imperfections of a natural brass finish and the authentic patina that is developed over time is welcomed.  This finish works well in both a contemporary or a traditional bathroom and creates a luxury finish that will last the test of time.

Will brass show water marks?

To avoid water marks, some manufacturers recommend drying off the brass fixtures after using. Though this is often the same advice for all metal finishes. We'd advise daily cleaning of your brass brassware, rinse away any traces of soap and dry carefully, use a soft cloth and removing any water marks.

What colours work best with brass?

Navy blue and warm brass work beautifully together. Take a look at the Britton Shoreditch Matt Blue Vanity Unit finished with brushed brass handles for a great example of how brass works with this cool yet neutral colour.

Opt for a big, bold, colourful wallpaper and then a simple white vanity unit such as Crosswater Arena 600 Console Unit (again opt for brass handle) and add a brass Crosswater MPRO Basin Tap for a style that will be truly eye-catching.

Pink hues work a treat with brass too, the warm colours complement each other and result in a relaxing, contemporary space.

Brass with the colour green

Probably one of the most popular combinations and styling options at the moment. Green walls, green tiles complement brass in every way possible. Green is the colour of the year, and that includes greens of any shade, pairing this on trend colour with the warmth of brass will perfectly complete any bathroom space.

Brass with blue tiles

Another favourite is to team brass taps, showers and shower enclosure frames with blue tiles. Crosswater Gallery 10 Brushed Brass Walk Through Wetroom Panel offers a creative and flexible design, the 10mm toughened glass panels are the epitome of contemporary luxury and sophistication.

Will brass work in a natural styled bathroom?

If your style is a contemporary, nature-inspired space which uses light and airy materials then pairing clean lines and minimalist design with brass will inspire comfort all year round. This is a stunningly, simple look achieved with a ‘less is more’ approach. Keep your surfaces clutter free and complete the look with luxury finishing touches such as fluffy white towels and a brushed brass toilet roll holder and toilet brush. This bathroom will be a place for you to unwind and will replicate that relaxing spa that you love to visit.

Heating for your brass bathroom

There is a plethora of towel warmers, heated towel rails and bathroom radiators now available in a brass finish. One of our favourites is the Crosswater MPRO Heated Towel Rail. This brushed brass effect towel rail will add a touch of glamour and luxury to any bathroom.

Don’t forget the matching brass radiator valves to complete the look! Crosswater MPRO Angled Radiator Valve Brushed Brass Effect.

Brass basins for a real wow effect

For a real statement piece in your bathroom we have to mention the Circus Countertop Basin in Brushed Brass Effect. The Circus basin will create a focal point anyway but in this stunning brass finish it will really take your breath away.

More tips on how to use brass in the bathroom

Don’t be afraid to mix your metals in your bathroom styling, both chrome and brass can be used in your space. Try to unify the look and balance the use of the two metals.

Don’t use too much brass – the end result may be too ‘blingy’. If you’re wanting to add bling to your bathroom then opt for a gold metallic finish. While a brass finish hints at glamour and luxury, a polished gold finish will give more opulence to your design.
